byf flag football

freqently asked questions

Parents and participants often have questions regarding the byf flag football program. You may find your question answered below. If you do not find your question in this section, e-mail us at:

flag@barringtonbroncos.com

When is the Flag season?

The Flag season runs roughly from mid August through the end of October. Games will be held on Saturdays, Sundays and possibly Mondays, beginning the first Saturday after Labor Day. Generally, each team will play one game per week.

Where are games held?

Unless otherwise stated, all games will be played at the Ron Beese Park football fields. The park is south of downtown Barrington.

How is Flag different than Tackle football?

Flag is designed to be a lower contact form of football that stresses the skills of the game. Flag football promotes equal participation of all players. A maximum of eight players on each team are allowed to be on the field at any given time. Every player will be given the opportunity to play quarterback and running back as well as other positions.

What kind of equipment is required?

Barrington Youth Football provides each player with a new game jersey, and mouth guards. Parents are expected to supply black game pants and knee pads, available at registration or your local sporting goods store. No other pads or equipment is required. Only rubber or plastic soled shoes are allowed. Mouth guards and cups are required for both practice and games. Officials will not allow a player to participate in a game without a cup and mouth guard.

What about practices?

Practices begin in mid to late August and are generally twice a week. These will be arranged and communicated by your player’s coach. Practice locations will generally be Ron Beese Park, Langendorf Park, and other sites arranged by BYF or your player’s coach.

How can I get more involved?

You can get more involved by contacting any member of the Flag Committee listed on this website or member of the BYF Board of Directors. There are many parent help needs and your coach would appreciate your assistance.

When will we receive a season schedule?

Shortly before the season begins, all coaches will receive a master game schedule for distribution to their teams. These schedules will also be posted on the BYF website.

What if my child cannot make a practice or a game?

We are aware that flag participants have other responsibilities. Vacations in August are a fact of life. However, you and your child are responsible for contacting your coach whenever the player will be unable to make practice, will be arriving late or leaving early. If missing a game, it is essential to inform your coach well in advance as each week, specific players are prepared to play skill positions.

What about bad weather?

Games cancelled due to bad weather will generally not be made up. In the case of thunder and lightning during a practice or game, all players and staff will immediately leave the field and seek shelter.

What if my child has a health concern?

Any and all health issues should be immediately discussed with your coach. Please make certain that you have completed and returned to your coach, an Authorization and Consent form. This is required to practice with your team. Copies can be downloaded from the website or be obtained from your coach.

If for some reason my child decides not to play can I get a refund?

There is a BYF Refund Policy for players that decide not to play before equipment is issued.
